In the spotlight

cheermoney1

Who doesn't love money? The poor U.S. economy has struck every facet of society over the past few years and recovery will take twice as long as the initial negative impact. Even college and professional cheerleading squads have felt the budget crunch.

In 2006, the University of Texas spirit program had an annual operating budget of $1.1 million. For the current 2009-10 school year, their budget has shrunk to $211,000.

In the coming months, Cheer Times will take a closer look at how college and professional spirit programs are surviving in a rock bottom economy.
