SPIRIT LEADER - USC TROJANS

Q&A with Brooke
Place of Residence: Woodinville, WA
Year in School: Senior
Major: Theatre
When did you first start cheerleading or dancing? I began dancing at the age of two. The Spirit Squad at USC is a team based more on personality, energy, and the ability to get a crowd to stand up and cheer on their team!
Why did you choose the school you currently attend? USC has always been my dream school. Not only is it diverse, academically stimulating, and located in the best city for my theatre, but it’s pride and tradition makes it an experience one will never forget.
What is the biggest difference between cheer/dance in college versus high school/all-star? College is a much bigger audience. Your enthusiasm and energy must be double, and you must be ready for anything!
Most memorable moment in collegiate cheer/dance career? Being ready at 4AM for the Rosebowl parade on New Years! It is such a long and stimulating day!
Most embarrassing moment in college career? When Taylor Mays picked me up inside the USC tunnel after a game he won and the whole crowd yelled for us!
Most influential person in your life and why? My brother, Bret, has always been an inspiration for me. He attended USC as a pitcher for their baseball team. Bret always took the mound with such confidence and grace, two characteristics that I believe are important to succeed in life. Though we are six years apart he has always been a shoulder to lean on and a supporter of my goals.
My career ambition is: To act in film. I have been performing since I was five even when it was just singing for my school bus!
I live by the following motto: “Behind every successful woman is herself.”
Favorite course in school and why? My arts and letters writing class has been one of my favorite courses in school so far because I enjoy reading classic novels and analyzing them.
Least favorite course and why? Shop Class for theatre. I almost cut my hand of numerous times using the saw.
Favorite tv show: That 70’s Show, I love laughing out loud!
Favorite hobbies: Yoga
Favorite sports team growing up: Since I am from Seattle my favorite team was the Seattle Super Sonics…so sad to have seen them leave.
Favorite actor and actress? Natalie Portman. She is well educated, talented, and stands up for what she believes in.
Favorite vacation spot: Going to my home in Washington.
Favorite holiday and why? Fourth of July because I love simply being around family to BBQ and light off fireworks.
Best advice to give someone who wants to be a college cheerleader/dancer: Never give up, smile, and remember that you do it because you love it so enjoy every minute!
No one knows this about me but… I love alone time and taking bubble baths. It is my escape from the world.
Is cheerleading/dancing a sport, why or why not? Oh yes. Being in shape and having the energy to get 999,000 fans off their feet in the LA Coliseum takes the mindset and motivation of an athlete.
