Q&A with Kelly
Place of Residence: San Antonio, Texas
Year in School: 2004-2008
Major: Health and Kinesiology
When did you first start cheerleading or dancing? Freshman year of High School
Why did you choose the school you currently attend? I choose Purdue because of the great academics and my future teammates were a lot more welcoming than the other schools I was considering trying out for
What is the biggest difference between cheer/dance in college versus high school/all-star? Collegiate cheerleaders are willing to work a lot harder and put a lot more hours into cheerleading
Most memorable moment in collegiate cheer/dance career? I had many but to name a few: the 1st football game, NCA Nationals – having a basket toss named after me; Washington NCAA tournament, the last football game day
Most embarrassing moment in college career? Lucky not to have one.
Most influential person in your life and why? My parents – they have always been very supportive of me from gymnastics to cheerleading to college
My career ambition is: I love what I am doing now – President’s assistant Alamo Leasing Company and the UTSA cheerleading assistant coach
I live by the following motto:

Motto: Welcome each day as a gift from God.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

Favorite course in school and why? Biomechanical Foundations of Motor Skill – Learned a lot, very interesting, and I didn’t have to sit in the class room and listen to a lecture every day – The class allowed you to get up and move around to understand what the professor was talking about……
Least favorite course and why? The 2 History classes I had to take – History just doesn’t interest me
Favorite tv show: Have many – love reality TV: Amazing Race, Survivor, So you think you can dance……. I would love to an Amazing Race or Survivor participant
Favorite hobbies: Tumbling, wakeboarding, shopping
Favorite sports team growing up: San Antonio Spurs
Favorite actor and actress? Actress: Sandra Bullock
Actor: Jake Gyllenhaal
Favorite vacation spot: Where ever there is sun, beach, and water
Favorite holiday and why? Christmas – get to spend lots of time with my whole family
Best advice to give someone who wants to be a college cheerleader/dancer: It is one of the best experiences you will ever have so enjoy it while it lasts – Time will fly by and the next thing you will know college/cheerleading will be over.
No one knows this about me but… I can be pretty shy
Is cheerleading/dancing a sport, why or why not? I would definitely say cheerleading is a sport! We put in just as many hours if not more then every other collegiate sport. Not only do we practice for all the various collegiate games, we also have to put in hours of practice for our own competitions.
Cheerleading is a very dangerous sport and I know from experience that we get injured/concussions more then most football players.
